“In order to effectively treat any part of the human musculoskeletal system, it is important to fully understand its biomechanics(Abboud, 2002).

Based on our vast and multidisciplinary expertise in Biomechanics stretching to over 30 years in treating patients and athletes, it was only natural to transform our expertise to Sports - research and clinical services. This only became fully feasible and a reality in January 2007 when a dedicated Sports Biomechanics Laboratory was established complimenting the other extensive clinical and research facilities of IMAR providing us with a further 32m long runway and a plethora of high tech motion equipment. The new laboratory facilitated an extensive programme of collaboration within the university, the city and nationwide exploring many hidden aspects of research in many sports disciplines with new ones added regularly. Topics we have researched include:

  • Alpine skiing
  • Ankle fractures in sport
  • Ballet pointe shoes
  • Cricket bowling action
  • Cycling saddles
  • Football boots
  • Formula 1 foot vibration
  • Golf swing analysis
  • Handball
  • Heel inserts
  • Horse riding
  • Netball playing surface analysis
  • Professional frisbee
  • Rock climbing
  • Rowing
  • Running
  • Running shoes
  • Smartwheel/Wheelchair
