Ian Kelly MCh (Orth) Award 2014-2015
This year the competition for an outright recipient for the ‘Ian Kelly Scientific Communication Award’ was too close to decide by two editors as the quality of papers were pretty high in general, so the examining committee presented the award jointly to Dr Mihir Thanvi and Dr Vinod Vaishnav as recommended by the two editors.
Professor Rami Abboud presents this award annually to the Master of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery (MCh Orth) degree student who has written the best scientific research paper submission for the year as per the relevant journal guidelines. This year both candidates were highly commended on their respective submissions and research work on Audit and meta-analysis. Dr Thanvi focussed on Comparison of condylar constrained and rotating hinge prostheses in revision total knee arthroplasty whilst Dr Vaishnav evaluated Revision risk of hip resurfacing versus total hip replacement: a meta-analysis and systematic review of the direct comparative studies. Both papers are currently being finalised for submission for peer-review submission.

Mrs Linda Johnston, Supervisor for both award winners, stated:
“I am especially pleased that Mihir and Vinod shared this award as they both did a tremendous amount of high-quality work this year. The quality of the research and the analysis of data in regard to such types of project are totally related to the amount of work put in by the individual student. So to achieve this award, speaks for itself in relation to the amount of time, initiative and hard work that each of these students put into their projects. I wish them every success with their future careers.”
