Science without Borders (SwB) Award 2014-2015
Rogerio Magno Do Nascimento Filho was presented with the Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery’s ‘Science without Borders Presentation and Paper Award’ from Professor Rami Abboud. This prize is awarded annually to the SwB student who has best presented their research, orally and visually, and written the best scientific research paper submission for the year as per the relevant journal guidelines.
Mr Carlos Wigderowitz, SwB Lead, stated: “I am delighted to have been able to participate in the development of this initiative and very proud of the success we have achieved. I want to extend my congratulations to the four students, Rogerio, Nicole, Carlos and Gabriel and wish them all the best in their budding and very promising careers. I hope the programme may continue for many years to come and many students may yet benefit from this fantastic opportunity we offer at the TORT Centre.”
Professor Rami Abboud added: “The four Brazilian students we have had this year have shown great aptitude, knowledge and skills in all aspects of the course. They have been a credit to the Initiative set up by the Brazilian Government and embraced by our Department, which was the first to accept medical students in the UK via this initiative. Our aim was to offer an experience that was different from what a medical student would experience in Brazil, whilst remaining complementary and indeed expanding upon their medical information, with an opportunity for a year of in-depth studies and a research project as well as clinical observation. We all wish them well with their future careers and urge them to stay in touch with us all at the TORT Centre. They are now part of a growing Scottish family that is making a difference.”
