Long Service Award
Mrs Heather Ferguson from the Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery (TORT Centre) was invited to attend the Summer Graduation Luncheon on Friday 26th June, 2015 in recognition of her long service with the University. Heather has been in continuous employ with the University of Dundee for an impressive 36 years.
Heather originally joined the university from the NHS in 1979. Originally in General Practice she moved to Dundee Royal Infirmary to assist the Departments of Urology and Neurosurgery before moving to Ninewells Medical School to join the Faculty/College Office where she was Personal Assistant to a record four Deans and one Vice-Principal until she finally found peace supporting all the staff in the University MEI section of the TORT Centre. Her broad spectrum of duties include assisting all undergraduate and postgraduate students, especially at PhD level, procurement and purchasing, travel and accommodation arrangements for MEI staff, support for IMAR clinics and taking minutes of all TORT committee and PMEC meetings. Heather is also the Department’s health and safety officer.
Professor Rami Abboud, Head of Department, stated:
“It’s fantastic that the University should recognise and value staff in this currently unstable environment. Heather, and many individuals like her have given many years of dedicated service to our University and it is only right that they are spoilt once in a while. We at the TORT Centre are lucky to have a member of staff who is not only skilled and trusted but who cares deeply about the University and its students and I will be looking forward to seeing her at the luncheon.”
