Professor Abboud 50th Birthday!

A group of staff from the TORT Centre surprised Professor Rami Abboud by taking him out to celebrate his 50th birthday with an evening meal at the Agacan Turkish Restaurant, Perth Road, Dundee on 8th October, 2015. It wasn’t a difficult decision to choose a restaurant as Rami has been entertaining visiting faculty, visitors and dining there personally for many years so it was the obvious venue for such a special occasion.

On behalf of the group, Dr Tim Drew presented Rami with a gift of a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label whisky, which we knew was a particular favourite treat. Tim gave a short speech thanking Rami for all he has done over the past 15 years for the staff at the Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery and to basically remind him of just how old he is now! Amongst the serious business of education, clinical research and publications there is always laughter within the TORT Centre and the staff present all agreed that it is a great place to work.

A spokesperson on behalf of all the staff present stated: “Rami is more than our boss and colleague, to many of us he is a close personal friend. He cares deeply about the University, the Medical School, the Department and his staff and students. He values our expertise, work ethic and trusts our judgement as his Team. His door is always open and we are free to discuss anything at any time with Rami, which is a rare commodity in someone with such a hectic daily schedule. We as a group of staff admire Prof academically, respect him professionally and like him personally.”
