Graduation 2015 - A Very Special Year @ TORT

Photographic Element

Every graduation is a special day not only for the graduates and their families but also for us members of staff. It is very heartening and rewarding to see our successful students completing their respective degrees and it always fills me with joy to see them graduating in person at the Graduation Ceremony in Dundee’s magnificent Caird Hall.

Graduation this year was extra special as our department had at least one student graduating in every possible category from undergraduate (MBChB and BMSc) to taught postgraduate (MCh Orth, Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Technology Centre, Motion Analysis, Orthopaedic Science, Sports and Biomechanical Medicine) to research postgraduate (MSc by research, MD and PhD). In total 28 students studying 6 different courses graduated from the Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery. The University of Dundee has become the first university in the UK to produce medical graduates through the Science without Borders (SwB) initiative.

As Head of Department, I am proud to say that this rare achievement is unique to our Department and this is actually the second time that we have succeeded in doing so. It was great to see some of our TORT students and their families and friends graduating in the November graduation ceremony to complete a memorable year for TORT.

Our graduates are our ambassadors and on behalf of all the staff in the TORT Centre, we wish them the greatest success in their onwards and upwards life journey and hope that they keep us up to date with their success and visit when possible. We value each and every one of them.
