Intercalated BMSc scientific paper award 2016
Fernando Bueno Neves was presented with the Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery’s Intercalated BMSc Scientific Paper Award at an awards ceremony on 31sy May 2016 at the TORT Centre. Professor Rami Abboud presents this award annually to the student who has written the best scientific research paper submission for the year as per the relevant journal guidelines.
Fernando’s research, entitled “Establishing state of motion through two-dimensional footprint analysis: a pilot study”, and supervised by Professor Rami Abboud and Dr Graham Arnold, aimed to establish the state of motion of people/suspects using two-dimensional footprint analysis.
Fernando recently presented his research along with four other students from the Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery, at the International Conference on Clinical Biomechanics at Staffordshire University on 23 April 2016.
“Fernando is one of nine Science without Border (SwB) students from Brazil who had the opportunity to join our Intercalated BMSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Orthopaedic Technology, the only intercalated degree in UK in Orthopaedics. Fernando thrived with his project and it was a pleasure to be his principal supervisor”, stated Professor Abboud. “It is a great pity that the Brazilian Government has stopped the SwB initiative as the medical students that we have had in our department for the last three years have been excellent and added diversity to our portfolio and we gained from them as much as they have gained from us. I hope the scheme will be only temporarily withdrawn and we are always ready to welcome future candidates in due course”.
