University welcomes new students
The University of Dundee, Scotland’s University of the Year, held a welcome for new undergraduate and postgraduate students on Monday 5th September 2016. Over three and a half thousand new arrivals from more than 80 countries around the world have chosen to join us here in Dundee to further their education, increase their career prospects and to enjoy all the University, the City of Dundee, and Scotland as a whole, has to offer.
Professor Rami Abboud, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching and Head of Postgraduate Division of the School of Medicine, was among the welcoming academic procession that was headed by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Pete Downes and Dundee’s Lord Provost, Bob Duncan, at the Caird Hall.
Professor Abboud’s Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery will be welcoming 28 students, from 7 countries, studying on 4 different courses on Monday 12th September. Students will be arriving at the TORT Centre from Belgium, Canada, China, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and the UK so the intake once again this year is truly multicultural and diverse.

“I wish every student a fantastic learning experience and a safe time here in Dundee”, stated Professor Abboud. “You will receive a fantastic teaching and learning experience, you will make friendships for life, and you will have the best social experience any university city in the UK has to offer. I also hope you take full advantage and travel around Scotland and enjoy its stunning scenery and generous hospitality. As I always say to students, ‘the more you put in the more you get out’ which is reflected in 95.9% of our 2013/14 graduates being either in work, further study or due to start work when surveyed 6 months after graduation. Learn and enjoy!”
Dundee was named Scottish University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016 and was recently ranked 8th in the UK in this year’s National Student Survey (NSS). In 2014 the University ranked 1st in Scotland, 7th in the UK and 19th in the world for overall average satisfaction (International Student Barometer). Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) was ranked top students’ union in Scotland and one of the very best in the UK in a NSS survey.
