Eminent visiting lecturer at TORT Centre

Dr Parag Sancheti visited the TORT Centre for two days to deliver a series of lectures to the Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (MCh Orth) candidates on 23/34 March 2017.

Dr Sancheti, is a MCh (Orth) Dundee Alumni from 2003 and is now an international faculty member on the same course. He is a renowned knee arthroscopy and knee joint replacement surgeon working in Pune, India and is the Director of the Sancheti Group which incorporates an Academy for healthcare education, a Hospital for specialised surgery, an Institute for orthopaedics and rehabilitation and a Clinic for orthopaedics and physiotherapy. His special interest lies in Total Joint Replacement surgery of the hip and knee, knee arthroscopy, pelvic and acetabulum fractures, orthopaedic research and sports injuries.

Areas of expertise covered by Dr Sancheti during his lecture days in Dundee included:

1)  Basic principles of TKR
2)  TKR in Varus/ Valgus/ Flexion deformities of Knee
3)  Recent Advances in Management of Meniscal Tears
4)  Rehabilitation of ACL injuries and post ACL reconstruction surgeries

Whilst at the TORT Centre Dr Sancheti contributed to a short promotional video that was filmed by Media Services to highlight his career progress and the many successes he has so far achieved which he considers are greatly influenced by the MCh (Orth) degree that he successfully completed from the University Dundee.

It is always a delight to welcome Dr Sancheti back to the TORT Centre to impart his orthopaedic knowledge to our MCh (Orth) candidates”, stated Professor Rami Abboud, Head of the Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery. “Parag’s continual support of the course just demonstrates how much he values this orthopaedic Master’s degree; so much so that he freely travels from India at his own expense to give his lectures. It is testimony to his many attributes that he has gone onto great achievements academically and personally since being a student with us in 2003. He is not only a valued and highly respected faculty member but also a close personal friend”.

Dr Sancheti is currently the President for Asia Pacific Arthroplasty Society (APAS), President of Indian Association of Sports Medicine (IASM), President Elect for Maharashtra Orthopaedic Association (MOA), Secretary General of BJD (Bone and Joint Decade – WHO) and Academic Council Member (Court) of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). He is the founder member of Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is on board of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) of the USA. He has also been the past secretary of Indian Arthroscopy Society (IAS). He was the Conveyer of the Medical Committee of the Commonwealth Youth Games held in Pune in 2008. He has won social awards like the Rashtra Seva Puraskar, Best Chapter Award, MITCON Achievers Awards and nominated as one of the ‘Icons of Pune’ by the Lokmat Group for having contributed for the development of the city. He has been conferred with Honorary Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Hon FRCS Ed).
