Collaboration between Tianjin and Dundee Universities
Mr Wang Peng, Associate Professor from Tianjin Sino-German University of Applied Sciences (SGUAS), Intelligent Manufacture School, China, gave an open lecture symposium on embedded control systems and their applications in intelligent equipment on 13 June 2017 in the TORT Centre.
Peng is an academic visitor to our institute, and is conducting collaborative projects for one year at the Institute of Motion Analysis and Research (IMAR) with Dr Weijie Wang who has been instrumental in the collaboration between the two institutes over the past several years.
During his lecture Peng firstly briefly introduced the history, special food and traditional culture of Tianjin, China, the world's 6th-most populous city. He also described the development of the SGUAS. Technically, Peng mainly introduced the principles of embedded systems and as an example, he used several applied projects he conducted with his students. He showed videos and images on an embedded system-controlled robot which can place balls into baskets. The robot performed well in a competition on the application of embedded control systems in intelligent equipment, and thus was ranked top place in the competition.

Embedded control systems have potential applications in medical instrumentation, especially in intelligent medical equipment. Currently, Peng and colleagues in Dundee are applying the embedded system in a research project designing a device for rehabilitation purposes.
