TORT Welcomes Foot & Ankle Specialists

New research (Abboud et al., 2018) has shown that possibly one of the best ways to lure consultant orthopaedic surgeons to Dundee every year to fulfil teaching commitments may simply just be to invite them to a great meal at the Agacan (please note, other Turkish restaurants are available!).

All joking aside, Professor Rami Abboud welcomed Mr Ben Rudge and Mr Ian Gill to the TORT Centre to lecture on the Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (MCh Orth) degree course on 18 April, 2018.

Both are Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeons with Mr Rudge working at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, and Mr Gill at New Victoria Hospital, Kingston upon Thames South London. This is now the eighth consecutive year Mr Rudge has imparted his orthopaedic experience on the course and Mr Gill was making his TORT debut so to speak, but promised he would definitely return again next year.

The one-day lecture was extensive and covered topics including: Ankle Arthritis; Ankle Ligament problems; Tibia Post problems; Pes Cavus and Pes Planus; Tendo Achilles problems; Hallux Valgus/Hallux Rigidus; Metatarsalgia; Trauma of Foot and Ankle.

Professor Abboud stated: “It is always extremely rewarding when visiting lecturers continue to return each year to lecture on the MCh (Orth) course and it is even better when other consultants give their inaugural lecture and become a member of our renowned visiting teaching faculty”.

“When I posted photographs of the three of us on facebook enjoying dinner I instantly received messages from existing faculty salivating and hurriedly organising dates to teach, and other consultants wanting to come and join the band of experts who enjoy lecturing on the MCh (Orth) course. The tone of this news item may be rather jokey but in all seriousness these gentlemen not only lecture on the course each year but they have become our friends here at the TORT Centre. They all recognise our commitment and dedication to teaching the new generation of orthopaedic surgeons and they understand the quality of the degree, especially for overseas surgeons” added Professor Abboud.
