Science Without Borders initiative
The Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery at TORT is pleased to announce its association with ‘Science without Borders’ which is a Brazilian Government scholarship programme that aims to send 100,000 Brazilian students on undergraduate and PhD sandwich courses to study in various specialities at top universities around the world. Science without Borders UK is the first large scale student mobility programme operated in the UK and will see the UK welcome up to 10,000 Brazilian students over the next four years. Not only will UK universities attract the most talented Brazilian students but will also provide us the opportunity to build links and establish new partnerships with Brazilian universities. "We feel this is a valuable exercise to the extent that not only are we the only Medical School in the UK to accept medical students but we are the only department within our medical school to embrace this initiative", said Professor Abboud. "We currently have four Brazilian undergraduate medical students at TORT and we hope not only to provide them with our expertise in orthopaedics, biomechanics, sports medicine and motion analysis but also to ultimately reward successful students by awarding them a relevant honours degree".
We hope this will be the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration between ourselves and the Brazilian Government. For any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Dr Carlos Wigderowitz (collaboration Coordinator), Mrs Sheila MacDonald (Administrator) or Professor Abboud (Head of Department).
