PhD presents at International Conference

Mr Raed Alzahrani, a current PhD student at the Institute of Motion Analysis & Research at the TORT Centre, gave a podium presentation at the 20th International Conference on Biomechanics (ICB) held on 16-17 April in Lisbon, Portugal. The conference was held at the Hotel HF Fénix Lisboa.

Raed gave a twenty-minute oral presentation on his research entitled “Comparison of Plantar Pressure Distribution between Hallux Valgus and Normal Feet Using Foot Pressure Platform” under the supervision of Professor Rami J. Abboud (Head of Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery, University of Dundee), Professor Tracey Wilkinson (Principal Anatomist & Cox Chair of Anatomy, CAHID) and Mr Fraser Harrold (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, NHS Tayside).

The ICBM aims to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of Biomechanics. It also provides a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in the fields of Biomechanics.

Professor Abboud stated:

“I would like to congratulate Raed on presenting at this prestigious and long-established biomechanics conference. Over the two-days there was a total of 36 oral presentations from speakers representing 26 different countries, which just highlights what a truly Global conference it is and what a great accolade for Raed for his research to be presented orally. The data presented at this conference is part of a bigger novel project evaluating hallux valgus surgery using biomechanical and radiological assessment prospectively.”
