MCh (Orth) Dundee recognised by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council

The Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (MCh Orth) course at the University Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery has been officially recognised by the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC). This is the first and currently only MCh Orth to be recognised in the country.

Dr Mohammad Riaz, a MCh (Orth) graduate in 2019, and Ian Smillie Class Award of Distinction winner, completed all the paperwork as per University and Council guidelines with the PMDC officially recognising the course in October 2019. Dr Riaz also won the David Rowley Presentation Skills Award for 2018-2019.

Dr Riaz, Medical Director and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Sultan Hospital, Kharian, Pakistan stated:

“I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to be part of the fantastic MCh (Orth) Dundee heritage. The program is as close to perfect as it can get due to the untiring efforts of all the individuals involved.

Lectures cover the entire Orthopaedic spectra and are mostly given by external speakers who are well established authorities in their respective fields.

The clinical attachment is priceless in experiencing healthcare delivery at its best in a grand state of the art hospital. A large number of workshops supplement the course for developing surgical skills which I found most helpful.

The research opportunities are endless with diverse clinical and laboratory based projects available. To top it all, Dundee is a very beautiful city with extremely friendly people which I already miss! Although other institutions in the UK offer MCh (Orth) programmes this is the only one recognised by the Pakistan Medical Council. So I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who wants to revolutionise their orthopaedic career.”
