UDOTS Interactive Workshop: 3D Motion in Gait Analysis
A team from the Dundee University Department of Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery (UDOTS) presented an Interactive Workshop on 3D Motion in Gait, Sports and Engineering at the BIOSPORTS Symposium, held at the EKA Club, Ahmedabad, India, on 18-19th January 2020.
The UDOTS International Teaching Faculty, consisting Dr Graham Arnold, Mr Sadiq Nasir, Mrs Linda Johnston and Mrs Sheila MacDonald, attended the CME day on Friday 18th before giving the full-day workshop on Saturday the 19th.
After a brief stop-over in Dubai, the team arrived in Ahmedabad on the Friday morning. After catching up on some well-deserved sleep, they were met by the symposium organisers, Dr Dhiraj Marothi (Chairman, Race Clinic, Ahmedabad) and Dr Abhishek Chowdhery (Chief Medical Specialist & Head of Department, EKA Life) both of whom are UDOTS Alumni. They then visited the EKA Club venue to test the set-up at the gait analysis laboratory, run by Dr Chowdhery and his team members, Ms Neha Kamani and Ms Sneh Thakkar.

The Workshop was well-received by more than 40 delegates, including Biomechanists, Physiotherapists, Biomedical Engineers, Prosthetists and Orthotists. One delegate even flew in from Saudi Arabia especially for the workshop. The workshop provided allied healthcare workers with an understanding of the complete process of data collection through to analysis of 3-dimensional motion information. The workshop contained practical sessions supplemented by workshops and lectures, building up a picture of how 3D motion can be used in the medical, sports, entertainment, and security industries.

Whilst in India, the team made the two-hour train trip south to Vadodara, where they gave a presentation to postgraduate medical students and physiotherapy students at Sumandeep Vidyapeeth University about gait analysis and courses run at the University of Dundee and advising prospective students about living and studying in Scotland.
Mr Arpit Jariwala, Director of UDOTS, stated:
“Congratulations on yet another successful trip to India. This just cements the success of the earlier trip to IOACON in Kolkata late last year and paves the way for further workshops in the future. I would like to thank Dhiraj and Abhishek, and their teams, for organising the event and looking after our guys so well for the duration of the stay. Their efforts just highlight once again the high regard our valued Alumni have for us here in Dundee. Thank you!”
