International Webinar on Distal Radius Fractures

Mr Arpit Jariwala, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Director of University Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (UDOTS), has been invited as International Guest Speaker for an online seminar on Distal Radius Fractures. The webinar will take place on Saturday 25th April 2020 and begins at 4:00 pm, Indian Standard Time.

The webinar will be moderated by one of UDOTS MCh (Orth) Alumni, Dr Nirmalya Deb and Dr Amitava Mukherjee, another of our Alumni, as a faculty member.

This esteemed faculty will discuss the management of distal radius fractures and its evidence-based management. Mr Jariwala will be discussing and sharing his experience in managing interesting complex distal radius cases which have required in-depth planning and additional manoeuvres for best surgical management.

Mr Arpit Jariwala, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Director of the University Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery (UDOTS) noted that:

"Distal radius fractures are a common presentation in emergency departments across the world. These fractures occur in a bimodal distribution, with the highest incidences among younger men after high-energy trauma and older women after low energy falls. The spectrum of distal radius fractures ranges from simple extra-articular to complex intra-articular with severe comminution and bone loss. Proper management of distal radius fractures necessitates accurate fracture assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of outcomes.

It is satisfying to see despite the havoc COVID 19 is causing across the world that we can continue to learn and teach. A webinar specifically focussing on distal radius fracture is an excellent and much-needed exercise.

I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences and learning from the esteemed faculty, two of which are Alumni of our prestigious MCh (Orth) Dundee Course. It will be great to share the stage with them and reconnect again."
