UDOTS Winter Graduation 2021

The University of Dundee was able to hold this year’s winter graduation ceremony in person. A total of 33 students studying 6 different courses at UDOTS graduated on Thursday 18 November 2021.

Graduation is an extra special day not only for the graduates and their families and friends but also for the staff who have done so much to support students all through the restrictions caused by the pandemic. It’s always extremely rewarding to see our students completing their respective degrees and graduating in Dundee’s splendid Caird Hall. This was the first in-person School of Medicine ceremony since the beginning of Covid-19 and it was fantastic to see new graduates, proud parents, family members and delighted friends all celebrating together. For the first time, the ceremony was live-streamed and accessible to anyone unable to attend.

Not only would we like to extend our congratulations to our own UDOTS Graduates but to every one of the hundreds of University of Dundee students who received degrees, diplomas and doctorates and who felt the tap of the Dundee bonnet over the two days. The traditional Dundee bonnet (cap) is used each year by the Chancellor, Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, to symbolically confer degrees upon graduates. It was first used by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1971 in her capacity as the first University Chancellor from 1967 - 1971.

Mr Arpit Jariwala, Director UDOTS, commented:

“I remember the immense feeling of pride and achievement at my own graduation so many congratulations to all our graduates (full listing below). It’s been a challenging couple of years due to COVID, so it was delightful to see students, family and friends celebrating together once again. I’d like to thank all our students for their patience and understanding during another testing academic year, but the high standard of research conducted, and the feedback provided has highlighted to me that the teaching and support have in no way diminished due to restrictions. For this, I’d like to pay tribute to the UDOTS Team for once again going that extra mile over the course of the year. I wish all our graduates future success and please do stay in touch.”
