Dr Weifeng Li, a Postdoctoral Researcher from Tianjin University, China arrived at the Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery and IMAR in early January 2014. Dr Li is financially supported by the Postdoctoral Foundation of China, and plans to stay in the Department for a two-month period associated with the Department's ongoing collaboration with Tianjin University.

Dr Li has a strong research background in the fields of Doppler ultrasonic endoscope systems and signal processing, three-dimensional reconstruction of coronary artery based on angiograms, and compact design of the laser diffraction particle size analyzer. He was welcomed to the Department by Professor Rami Abboud and shown around the research faciulities and equipment at IMAR, where he has proposed to collaborate with local researchers to design and construct a specific ultrasonic system to investigate muscle situations in the lower limbs for patients with walking difficulties.

Dr Li also feels that there may be the possibility of introducing the orthopaedic surgeons and physiotherapist from Tianjin, China to visit and train at the TORT Centre. Dr Li is exploring with Dr Weijie Wang, ways of further collaborations from UK and Chinese research councils/governments.
