Maharashtra Medical Council Recognise MCh (Orth) Dundee
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Dhiraj K Marothi for having his MCh (Orth) Dundee degree officially recognised and registered by the Maharashtra Medical Council of India (MMC) in Mumbai.
Dr Marothi graduated from Dundee in 2009 and is currently Senior Consultant Knee Replacement Surgeon, Shalby Hospitals, Ahmedabad, India. Dr Marothi has recently been invited to TORT by Professor Rami Abboud (MCh Orth Course Director) as an international visiting faculty to lecture to future MCh (Orth) candidates and has also agreed to act as a guide for other MCh Dundee graduates on how to get their degree registered with the MMC.
Dr Marothi stated:
“The MCh, Dundee course gave me a sound grounding in basic knowledge of orthopaedics and trauma surgery. I enjoyed my time in Dundee and on successfully completing my degree there I stayed for a further six more months working in Ninewells Hospital. During this tenure I got selected in Brigand Wales because of clinical experience of UK. Meanwhile I got call from Shalby Hospitals, India. In the last four years, I have done more than 3000 knee replacements. I personally feel the specialised MCh experience in Dundee helped greatly in advancing my career in India.”
The Medical Council of India (MCI) made the decision to devolve course recognition to respective states and this is now the second State to accredit the MCh (Orth) Dundee degree, after Tamil Nadu Medical Council, Chennai, did likewise for Dr Karthi Sundar Vellaiputhiyavan who graduated from Dundee in 2011.
Professor Abboud commented:
“It is great news to see that our MCh (Orth) Degree has been recognised by two states so far in India since the recent devolution from the central Medical Council of India (MCI) to India’s 29 current states. I am sure that more success will follow. These recognitions complement the course’s excellent international reputation as well as its accreditation by the Royal College of Surgeons of England”.
