Mr Jariwala did his masters in India from Banaras University (BHU) before coming to the UK where he completed his MCh Orth course in Dundee in which he was awarded the prestigious ‘Ian Smillie Award’ for best overall performance for 2003. Thereafter Mr Jariwala completed his Basic Surgical Rotation in Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire. He was appointed Clinical Lecturer and Speciality Registrar in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery in Dundee in 2006. Since then he has been extensively involved in research, teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students with over 20 peer-published papers and numerous presentations. After successfully clearing his FRCS Orth examination and completing his general orthopaedic training he undertook his advanced Upper Limb Fellowship at the world renounced Upper Limb unit at 'Wrightington Hospital' for a year.

He has recently joined NHS Tayside as a Consultant Upper Limb and Trauma Surgeon. He will continue to further his academic interests and support the activities of the University department including research, supervision and teaching.

Professor Jariwala is currently working as a Consultant Shoulder, Elbow and Trauma Surgeon in NHS Tayside, Dundee, Scotland since 2013. he completed his orthopaedic residency in IMS, BHU, India before completing his higher surgical training in Scotland. He gained further experience in the management of upper limb orthopaedic disorders at the world renowned tertiary referral unit at Wrightington Hospital, Wigan.

His present practice is purely upper limb-based including complex upper limb trauma including managing patients with polytrauma. As a full-time Consultant Shoulder, Elbow and Trauma Surgeon in a large and busy teaching hospital, Professor Jariwala has a very busy and challenging practice with secondary and tertiary referral of complex upper limb trauma and elective cases. His elective practice is mainly shoulder and elbow focusing mainly on arthroscopic procedures around shoulder and elbow and has a keen interest in patients with shoulder trauma and instability.

Over the last five years as an Consultant Shoulder, Elbow and Trauma Surgeon, he has introduced one-stop upper limb clinics, and established upper limb disorder management guidelines. In addition, as the Upper Limb Audit Lead, he has designed a unique postal audit process only available in NHS Tayside, for prospectively collecting data on upper limb procedures. These practices aim to improve the quality of clinical care thus providing and yet shortening the patient journey.

With his strong academic background and having completed his Higher Degree (MD), Professor Jariwala has been extensively involved in teaching, training and supervision of research projects for undergraduate, postgraduate and for the Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (MCh Orth) Dundee students. He has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He has had numerous presentations both nationally and internationally and has won several research awards. Professor Jariwala has been directly involved in supervision of more than 20 students including MCh (Orth) Dundee students, Orthopaedic trainees, Foundation doctors and Medical Students from the University of Dundee. For these contributions, he was recently promoted as Honorary Clinical Reader with the University of Dundee.
