Mr David Nicoll completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Dundee in 1998. He subsequently completed his Basic Surgical Training on the Glasgow / West of Scotland rotation in 2002 before specialty training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in the East of Scotland. During his postgraduate training, he was an honorary lecturer and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) for a thesis entitled “Component Orientation in the Painful Knee Replacement”. He also developed an interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He undertook fellowship training in sports medicine surgery at the Perth Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine institute in Perth, Australia after obtaining the FRCS (Orth) professional examination.
Mr Nicoll has been a consultant orthopaedic and trauma surgeon since June 2011 with subspecialty interests in the fields of soft tissue knee injuries and knee arthroplasty. He holds the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and is the teaching lead, lecture course convenor and clinical block organiser for undergraduate musculoskeletal teaching. He also participates in postgraduate teaching being a tutor and examiner for MCh Orth students, intercalated BmSc students and distance learning courses run by the department. He is also a faculty member on postgraduate surgical courses for knee replacement and knee arthroscopy.
